I found this beautiful Medium Green Disk Pitcher at, of all places, an estate sale. I paid a total sum of $9.50

Not too bad for a days work! LOL

Fiesta/Harlequin Go-Alongs...

A few months ago I posted a picture of my newest acquisition on Medium Green. It came from John's grandparents estate. At the time, I didn't know a single thing about them, as far as, who made them or what time period they were made. I just thought they were the cutest little things. Well, a few weeks ago, I surfing Ebay I was quite shocked when I just happened to stubble across 4 more of these. I just had to buy them! Someone was advertising them as "Fiesta Go-Alongs". I receieved them today: 2 green, 1 blue, and a yellow. They are not marked. Does anyone know the maker???? I would love to know.

Here they are all together at last. I took a picture of them next to George and Martha for size comparison. Sorry for the poor picture!

Out with the old...

John busted up the old toilet this afternoon. It was nice to see it "go" (Ha, Ha, get it??? LOL).
BTW: it was the original toilet. The date on the toilet is 1954! That brown stuff is NOT schmoo, don't worry...it's rust sediment left over from when the house didn't have a water softener.

John had fun...

Tufted Titmouse...

I saw one of these cute little birds lurking around the feeders this morning. I have never seen one here, but I know they must be around because my parents have them occasionally at their feeder. Still, not as common as the chickadee or finch. I grabbed my camera, but he moved so quickly it was hard to get a good pic.

So, I downloaded this picture to show you up close. They are a very cute bird.

Bathroom project...

Yes, I'm sure some of you are probably thinking, "Boy, they've sure taken along time on that bathroom remodel." Well, I agree...however, it's not as easy as it looks and we can't work on it 24/7 like we would like to. We've had some trying issues with this bathroom. Too many to list. I do have some good news though. We're about 3/4 the way done. We are putting the wainscoting up this week along with fixing the wall behind the toilet. UGH! We can't go too much farther until we fix the wall. When we peeled the old paneling off the wall, there was a big hole. Also, we had a sneaky feeling the toilet has been leaking around the base. It wasn't a gusher..just a very slow leak. It was finally confirmed when we took up the old flooring this weekend. That will obviously get fixed when we put in the new toilet...THANK GOODNESS!! Just a quick tip boys and girls...those little wax rings that seal your toilet don't always last forever!!!!

The new pedestal sink will be installed after we finish with the wainscoting. There are a few other issues with the shower surround that can't be addressed until this summer. Our bathroom window is right inside of the shower. It's a regular sized window, not one of the half windows high up above the shower. It was a poor design..but it was built back in the early 50's and we're not changing it. I've come up with a fancy way to shield the window from water and make it look half way decent, too. The shower surround has to be replaced, but we can't do that until the window is installed. That should be an interesting project to say the least! Luckily, John and his dad are very capable of handling many of the remodeling projects themselves. That saves a lot of money for us.

Maybe if you're all good, I'll post some pics after we're done :)

SPRING...

It's beginning to feel a lot like spring outside. This morning I let Rizzo out and I heard some specific sounds that only Spring brings...Robins and Red-Winged Blackbirds. Oh, how I love the sound of Red Wings singing in the distance. It's one of my favorite sounds of Spring.

I looked up in one of the trees and there was a Robin all fluffed up and he was scolding Rizzo down below. They will be making their nests soon. I have to get my disk pitcher birdhouse out.
Did I mention that the Robin is our state bird, too.

New Bedroom Curtains...

I'm on a roll this week. LOL

Here's a picture of my new bedroom curtains. Normally I'm not a flowery kind of girl, but I loved these curtains. We put these up last Sunday when it was pouring rain outside. It was a good day to do such tasks.

Look what's Peeking out at me...

Ahhh, the first signs of Spring. I love it!! Although we opened the shades to find our yard covered in a thin layer of white stuff this morning, I noticed this afternoon that the tulips have started to poke their heads up. What a welcoming site to see. Just thought I'd share it with everyone.

Windy Weather...

Sorry I keep talking about the weather lately. I know it's a boring blog, but I really haven't had much to say...except for it's W~I~N~D~Y.

Oh, and it rained even more last night. Not as bad as the other night, but it still came down pretty good. Then at about 2 a.m. the wind picked up and it has been gusting to 50+mph all day. The neighbors blue barrels(trash cans) are now across the road in the field. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out they're gone. LOL

It's so windy that John got called into work early today. They are in STORM MODE! I haven't heard how many people are without power, but I'm just glad we aren't this time. Not sure how many hours John will be working today. It's either 12 or 16 hrs. I hope it's only twelve because he will be home at his regular time tonight. However, it's most likely sixteen because most of the linesmen will be out that long too.

Since John went to work early we weren't able to work on the bathroom. It's to the point that I can't do too much more without his help. So, hopefully this weekend we can work like gang-busters because I want my new toilet and sink in soon.

The time change has sure helped my SAD symptons. It feels so good to have more light at night. I can't wait until the warm breeze fills the air. Then I will feel like doing more things. Right now I feel like I'm in a rut. I always get like this during the winter months. Hopefully the bathroom project and our next project, the kitchen will help fill the void of feeling crappy all the time. This is when I wish I lived someplace warm.

The lilac bush in beginning to show signs of life. Well, sort of! The buds are beginning to get plump. In a few months we will have beautiful lavender colored flowers. To be honest, I hate the smell of lilacs, but I love the blossoms. We had 3 lilac bushes when we first moved into this place back in 2000 or 2001. We cut two of them down because they were a bit over grown and in a bad spot. We kept the best one and now I keep in to a manageable size by pruning it every year. It's Rizzo's favorite spot to lift his leg, too. Did I mention at one point...the neighbors ducks made a nest in it. So, I guess it's popular with the animals too.

The Sun turned to Clouds...

Well, so much for the sunny weather. It rained all day Saturday and Sunday. At times it rained so hard that I couldn't see across the road. I guess that's what Spring is all about, but yesterday was pretty weird. Actually, it's not really that weird for Michigan to experience a change in weather so quickly. Our motto is "If you don't like the weather we're having now...just wait 5 minutes and it will change."
It was very windy yesterday afternoon, too. We must have gotten a bit of snow last night because the salt trucks were out early this morning. All the water on the roads from the rain didn't help either.
It's sunny today. The temperature is about 45°...not too shabby. John wanted to take today off, but he will have better days to take off once it gets warmer. I can tell he's getting spring fever.

We got the first coat of paint on the bathroom walls today. It looks pretty good. I think it will look even nicer after the second coat is put on. Slowly, but surely we are putting the bathroom back together again. I can't wait until it's done.

It's Sunny...

WOW! I can't believe my eyes...it's 65° and sunny today. It feels sooo good. I have the bedroom window and the front door open to air out the house. We just got done priming the bathroom and that looks good, too. What a beautiful day!

When John left for work this afternoon I went outside to see him off. I smelled diesel fuel in the air. I went back to check our fuel oil tanks and sure enough...the fuel buzzard(that's what we call the guy that comes out to fill us up) had topped off the tanks. We have told him many times not to fill it all the way up because when the sun comes around that side of the house the fuel expands too much and overflows out of the tank spout. He should know better anyway..he's been doing it long enough. Luckily we have two tanks, so John just had to transfer some into the other tank. The fuel is NOT that cheap to just be wasting it on the ground.
